From Benson, Fort Bowie is about 74 miles away.
Travel time is about 1.3 hours.
Drive east on I-10 for about 60 miles.
Take Exit 362 onto Business I-10
Drive past the pecan orchards
Drive through the "town" of Bowie
Turn Right onto Apache Pass Road at the Fort Bowie Sign
Drive south on Apache Pass Road toward the mountains for 14 miles
You drive through many pistachio orchards on both sides of the road
The pavement ends after about 14 miles and there is a short section of gravel road to reach the parking area.
Pit toilets and interpretive signs mark the parking area and trailhead.
One option on the return trip is to continue on the gravel road for about 8 miles until it ends at pavement (Highway 186). Turn right (north) and drive 22 miles through Dos Cabezas and on into Willcox.
