General Information for the Bog Spring Hike

The parking area is a fee area.  However, one can leave their senior pass on their dashboard to cover this fee.  This is a short but steep hike that starts climbing right at the trailhead.  There are some nice views as one hikes up the trail but I tend to describe this hike as an "exercise hike".   There are several intersecting trails in this area and one needs to be careful to note the intersections and to remember which trail to take.  Part of the trail is an old jeep road.   One gets onto the jeep trail and then later one needs to get off the jeep trail and back on the hiking trail.  This intersection is well marked.  Some, but not all, of the intersections are well marked.  At a comfortable pace it takes about 100 minutes to hike up to Bog Spring.  The spring is marked with a concrete trough that usually has water in it.  There are some fallen trees in the neighborhood of the spring that provide seating for a pleasant lunch stop.

The upper portions of this hike have some madrone trees (see leaves of madrone tree) that should provide madrone berries in November and December.  The madrone berries provide a "bird magnet" that attract numerous species of migrating and wintering birds.  I suspect that this would be a great hike for late November or early December.

There are Pit Toilets at the trailhead for this hike.

There is a sign indicating that dogs should be controled with a leash.
